Philip Karmanov started playing piano with Sander Knuiman at the age of six. During his summer holiday to Saint Petersburg (Russia) in 2015 and 2016, Philip took lessons with Alexander Pashkov.

In 2017, Philip took part in the Princess Christina Competition, where he received an honorable mention. That year he started his studies at the Academy of Musical Talent in Utrecht with Marjès Benoist, where he studied for five years. He is currently studying at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Frank van der Laar. Philip has followed master classes with Dominique Merlet, Jacques Rouvier, Andreas Frölich and Leslie Howard, among others.

In 2019, Philip won 1st prize at the YPF Junior Piano Competition. Since 2019, Philip has had a Bösendorfer grand piano on loan from the National Musical Instruments Fund.

Philip enjoys playing chamber music with various ensembles. He played with members of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, with the Helikon Quartet, at the Summer Academy of the Peter de Grote Festival (Groningen).
