Niels Meliefste

Niels Meliefste studied percussion at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. His teachers were Wim Vos, Luuk Nagtegaal and Aly NDiaye Rose. Early in his career he won prizes at prestigious competitions, such as TROMP Percussion and Gaudeamus. Niels has been part of Slagwerk Den Haag (SDH) since 2006. Since then he has been a permanent member of many productions that SDH made together with Club Guy and Roni. He also appeared on stage with Steve Reich, worked with Louis Andriessen and Michel van der Aa, but also with Thijs de Vlieger (Noisia).

Niels is a team player par excellence who is loved for his almost theatrical musicality. When it comes to finding the right sound, he strives for perfection and his hands-on mentality guides him when it comes to breaking new ground. In addition to his work at Slagwerk Den Haag, Niels is a teacher at the Royal Conservatory and guest percussionist at Ensemble Modern, NAP, Ludwig, ASKO | Schoenberg and Tomoko Mukaiyama.
