Since its founding in 2012, the Hague string orchestra Ciconia Consort has been giving high-profile performances. The orchestra plays music from all style periods, from baroque to modern. In addition to the major string works, the program also often features unknown masterpieces and Dutch premieres. The orchestra offers not just a concert, but a real evening or afternoon out, where concerts are placed in a thematic context. With surprising programs that regularly respond to current social themes, Ciconia can rightly call itself a contemporary classical ensemble.

The Ciconia Consort is led by Dick van Gasteren and consists of 20 young musicians who have made their mark at (inter)national competitions and concert stages. The orchestra presents 25 concerts throughout the Netherlands every year, with the Nieuwe Kerk aan het Spui in The Hague as its permanent performance venue.

The orchestra released four CDs on the Brilliant Classics label, which were praised by the international press. In addition, the orchestra can be heard worldwide on radio stations such as ABC Classic (Australia), SWR2, NDR and BBC3.
